Get a US Number for Verification From Outside the US

TL;DR
- Many US services only accept US mobile numbers, so a number from home is refused before any code is sent.
- A temporary US number covers one code; a rental covers repeat logins; a US eSIM gives an everyday US line.
- eSIM lines need a carrier-unlocked, eSIM-capable phone; using a US VPN during setup can help.
- Use the number within each service's terms and the law where you live.
Why does verification fail with a number from outside the US?
It fails because many US services are built for US customers and accept only US mobile numbers. If you enter a number from another country, the form either refuses it or the service never sends the code.
Some services also refuse US numbers that are classified as VoIP, which is why a free internet calling number often fails too. Our guide on why websites reject VoIP numbers covers that check.
What do you need before you start?
- The service's rules on phone numbers and supported countries.
- A sense of whether you will need codes on this number again.
- A crypto wallet to top up your Prism and Pulse balance.
- For an eSIM: a carrier-unlocked phone that supports eSIM.
Which type of US number should you use from abroad?
Use the type that matches how long you need the number. All three options below are carrier-issued US numbers; they differ in how long they stay yours and what they can do.
| Option | What you get | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| OptionTemporary number | What you getA US number for up to 15 minutes; paid only if a code arrives | Best whenYou need one permitted code |
| OptionNumber rental | What you getThe same US number for days, weeks or months | Best whenThe account will ask for codes again |
| OptionUS eSIM line | What you getTalk, text and data on a major US carrier network | Best whenYou want a US line on your phone |
How do you get a US number for verification step by step?
The process takes a few minutes and works the same from any country.
- Create your Prism and Pulse account.
- Top up your wallet with crypto. Your balance is held in US dollars.
- Choose the service you are verifying and take a temporary US number, or rent one if you will need it again.
- Enter the number with the +1 country code.
- Read the code in your dashboard. If none arrives within the window, the order expires and the hold is released.
Can you use a US eSIM from outside the US?
Yes, with some care. A US eSIM line is designed for US service, but you can install and manage it from abroad and receive texts on it, including over Wi-Fi Calling where the plan and phone support it.
- Check the phone is carrier-unlocked and shows an EID in its settings.
- Connect to stable Wi-Fi before installing.
- Using a US VPN location during installation, activation and renewal can make setup smoother.
- Do not delete the eSIM if something goes wrong. Contact support first, as some profiles cannot be reinstalled.

When is a US number not enough?
A US number is not enough when the service checks more than your phone. Some services also require a US payment card, a US address, US identity documents or access from a US location.
A number cannot satisfy those requirements, and you should not try to misrepresent where you are. If a service is not offered in your country, its terms usually say so.
How do you fix codes that do not arrive?
Start by finding out where the process stopped.
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| ProblemNumber refused instantly | Likely causeWrong format or a non-US number entered | What to doEnter +1 and all ten digits |
| ProblemAccepted, but no code | Likely causeDelivery delay or attempt limit | What to doWait, request one new code, then try another number |
| ProblemCode arrives too late | Likely causeWindow closed or code expired | What to doRequest a fresh code and enter it at once |
| ProblemAsked for a code months later | Likely causeThe temporary number is gone | What to doUse account recovery; rent or keep a number next time |
How do you keep access to the account later?
Plan for your next login before you create the account. If the service will text you on a new device or for a password reset, a temporary number will not be there to receive it.
Use a rental or an eSIM line for accounts you intend to keep, and where the service offers it, add an authenticator app too. Our free 2FA code generator works with any standard authenticator secret.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a US phone number without living in the US?
Yes. Prism and Pulse issues US numbers and eSIM lines to customers anywhere, paid from a prepaid crypto wallet. Use them within each service's terms and local law.
Will the number work in my country?
Temporary and rented numbers are read in your dashboard, so they work wherever you have internet. An eSIM line can receive texts abroad, including over Wi-Fi Calling where supported.
Do I need a VPN?
Not for temporary numbers or rentals. For eSIM lines, a US VPN location during installation, activation and renewal can help setup go smoothly.
Can I pay with a card?
Top-ups are made in crypto. Your balance is held in US dollars and spent on every product.
What if the service also needs a US address or card?
A phone number cannot meet those requirements. Check the service's terms; if it is not available where you live, it is not something a number can change.
